Abstract

In the present study, sludge obtained from caustic industries was used as adsorbent for crystal violet (CV) dye removal from aqueous solution. The effects of dye initial concentration, contact time, adsorbent dosage and pH on CV adsorption onto sludge were investigated. Results showed that the adsorption of CV was favourable at pH 6 whereas the adsorption uptake was found to increase with a increase in initial concentration, contact time and adsorbent dosage. Experimental data were analyzed by model equations such as Langmuir, Freundlich isotherms and it was observed that Langmuir isotherm model was found to be best fitted in the adsorption data.
